Ventolin inhaler redesign

Ventolin Inhaler

The original Ventolin inhaler is a product I use personally. For my Advanced Design Studio course, I redesigned it with a lower profile, improved ergonomics, and reduced plastic use.

The original design was difficult to fit comfortably in a pocket for daily carry. It also offered limited support for two-handed use and could be less accessible for users with smaller hands.

To use the medication correctly, the user has to press down the canister while inhaling at the same time.

Openings on the sides and inside the mouthpiece allow air to flow through the product and help the user inhale the medication. Its convex shape is designed to fit naturally against the mouth.

The canister can be removed by pulling it downward. Its tip is held securely in place through a snug-fit connection.

Rails inside the mouthpiece guide the canister during reloading, helping it align naturally with the snug-fit opening.

The mouthpiece is pressed to release the medication.

Research Outputs

A.Since this point the canister and the shell are distributed, packaged, bought, consumed and disposed together. The shell is actually a reusable part so this step creates more waste

B. It is quite confusing to grab the product and hard to press the button in the indicated way. the form is an issue.

C. The shell has an opening even if it has a cap, which makes the product less sterile in the storing and carrying situations.

D. The shell and the cannister are both disposed together to be bought again. The consumer doesn’t know exactly when to dispose the product.

E. This step has to be avoided.

F.The recycling process consumes too much energy compared to a reusable/refillable solution.
