Knocker & Sofa
This IoT project explores noise-related conflicts in co-living environments through a speculative design approach. Using interaction design principles, it aims to make the awkward experience of confronting noisy housemates more playful, engaging, and less frustrating.
Research, Brainstorming, Personas, Storyboarding and then brainstorming again…
We reached to 15-20 people living in shared apartments from our personal connections and did interviews with them. With the data we collected we created personas and storyboards.
Inspiration
The problem of noisy housemates is already solved by the user through hitting on the wall to warn them. Although this is mean, we used it as an element of interaction design
User Knocks
Knocker calculates how angry the user is based on how many knocks, punches, how hard and frequency.
Via Bluetooth Communication
Couch Delivers
Sofa opens the solenoid valve, deflating the sofa cushion. The amount of anger level decides how long the valve will stay open.
Prototypes
After doing low fidelity, fast prototypes with pink foam we 3D printed the final working prototypes. We used Arduino ESP32, did the wiring and the code for final working demonstration.
Presentation day
Thank you to my colleagues, Kerem Umitvar and Mobina Ghods for their collaboration!
